Romans 14

Reading Romans 14, I am just blown away.

We Christians can be so judgemental of other Christians.  Our own brothers and sisters!  This chapter mainly talks about eating and drinking, but I am convinced that there are broader implications both in Paul’s generation and our own, here in 2010.

I encourage you to read Romans 14 and ask God how you might be wrongly judging another brother or sister, or how you might be “tearing down the work of God for the sake of food.”

Why do we condemn Christians who don’t do things our way?

I am very disheartened when I hear myself, and other Christians, complain about other people rather than give thanks and praise to God for the work He is doing.

I believe that there are very important things to learn in this chapter.  Spirit come and teach us!

stolen water is sweet

Proverbs 9:17

Stolen water is sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.

Proverbs 20:17

Bread obtained by falsehood is sweet to a man, but afterward his mouth will be filled with gravel.

Wow.  There is no need for grand commentary on this.  Perhaps this is why the majority of married couples who were sexually active before marriage end up divorcing each other.  Once the passionate relationship becomes “okay” or “lawful” (in the moral sense), the water isn’t so sweet anymore, and the bread isn’t so pleasant anymore and they start desiring other bread and water.. even if it is sub-par.  It isn’t the quality of the bread and water that makes it desirable… it’s whether or not it’s forbidden.

Again, perhaps this is why a man or woman might wildly fantasize about being with someone else, even if that person isn’t half the person their spouse is…

Listen, what we read in the Bible is written by real people with hearts and minds just like ours.  Proverbs 9:17 is something that Solomon probably witnessed among the young men in and around his court, or maybe he learned this from personal experience, or both.  He did after all have a million and one concubines… Maybe he noticed that he desired women who he couldn’t have (like the women who were already married) 100 times more than women he had in his harem.  ***Hello!!!! David and Bathsheba anyone!?***

We need to heed God’s wisdom, and stay with our Shepherd so that we don’t walk off a cliff.

wow hello

So ya June is almost over and I haven’t written once.  Haha.  I don’t feel too bad though because it must mean that I’ve been really busy.

We have been touring for over two weeks now and it has been a phenomenal experience.  God is good, and it’s awesome to see Him at work through Mosaic despite our imperfection.

more to come, as I become more disciplined…

What is the recession for?

During the time when I had just been diagnosed with MS, God spoke to me through this sermon on the financial recession.  I saw my health issues as a recession of sorts, and everything that Piper said resounded as truth in my situation as well.

If you are experiencing a recession of sorts, be blessed by this truth.

random event 5/17

A certain (well-known) college football mascot shows up at our house and has a dance party with us.

… and I will never forget downloading “Eye of the Tiger” on Itunes right then and there just so that we could dance with him for five minutes.

James 1:19-20 says be slow to anger, for the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God

and somewhere in Proverbs it says that he who is slow to anger is better than the mighty.

and all over the Bible, we are told that God is slow to anger.

Being slow to anger is a divine characteristic.

Let’s start today.

random event of the other day

And I feel like I need to tell you about this too…

The other day a horse gave birth in our front yard and one of my housemates tore the sack open so the baby could breathe.  As soon as the sack was torn, the colt took a monstrous breath and started snorting and neighing.  It was cool.

random event of the day

I was using a circular saw cutting some 4X4s on my back patio and a random piece of wood shrapnel flew 15 feet and sliced one of my potted cayenne pepper plants in half like a guillotine…
